Legacy GT:Fourth generation (2003–2009) – BL, BP/EJ20x or EJ20y swap
Background
EJ20X/Y swap is a pretty common swap in place of the EJ255 because they are usually widely available as JDM imported engines, are usually cheaper than comparable EJ255 and make similar power to the EJ255.

These engines can be installed with the factory wiring and ran by a custom tune on a usdm ej255 ECU. To install retard the exhaust cams a tooth, and swap everything over from long block to long block and you’re good to go. You’ll need a professional dyno tune to truly make it run right. Compression is different, timing is off, etc, but it’ll run and perform just fine.
Issue is, the 05-06 USDM legacy is compatible with the gen1 EJ20X (no secondary air pump). 07-09 legacy is gen2 EJ20X (air pump). You can cross them, but them some sensors have to be swapped (cam position sensors). But otherwise it’s a straight swap with either option.
